Greendale's Abby Jankowski Crowned Woodland Conference Discus Champ

Greendale sophomore discus thrower Abby Jankowski dominated the Woodland Conference Outdoor Championship, and it wasn’t even close.

Jankowski won the event with a distance of 108 feet, 7 inches, on Monday at Brown Deer High School. Her effort was a full 11 feet past her closest competitor.

Jankowski also was fourth in the shot put with a 33-8, and helped the Greendale girls finish sixth with 41 points in the 13-team meet.

Greendale’s doctor was also in, as in senior Alyssa Docter, who was the runner-up in the pole vault in 10-0, a foot and a half behind conference champion Rayce Albino of New Berlin West. Docter also finished sixth in the high jump (4-6).

The top-eight placewinners scored for their school. Other Greendale point-scorers were:

• fourth: senior Chelsey Heiden in the 3,200-meter run in 12:12.24.
• fifth: 800 relay of Eden Bauer, Abbie Scheidt, Paige Dellfish and Lea Lassaued in 1:56.84.
• seventh: Heiden in the 1,600 in 5:33.93; 400 relay of Nikki Price, Scheidt, Lassaued and Keaunna McCormick in 55.17.
• eighth: 3,200 relay of Stephanie Mogensen, Kacee Ochalek, Hannah Polenske and Taylor Wilson in 11:25.87; 1,600 relay of Emily Perszyk, Ochalek, Anna Klar and Lassaued in 4:44.83.

Points were especially hard to come by for the Greendale boys, who were 12th of 13 teams with only 17.

Joe Pokrzywa ran fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.23 and was on the fifth-place 400 relay along with Mike Scheidt, Tyler Voss and Sean Fialkorski (46.17).

Sophomore Joey Unrein ran sixth in the 1,600 (4:39.72) and seventh in the 800 (2:04.33) and junior John Paul Carvalho was sixth with a 10-6 in the pole vault.
