Greendale Schools Hires Director of Equity And Instruction

Greendale officials say Maggy Olson stood out because she increased staff diversity while decreasing educational gaps at her previous job.

GREENDALE, WI — Greendale Schools has hired Maggy Olson to become the district's Director of Equity and Instruction, officials said this week.

Her official appointment will be approved by the Board of Education at its June 1 meeting, and will start in July, district officials said.

Olson joins Greendale from Milwaukee College Prep 38th Street Campus, a 500 student K4 through eighth-grade school in Milwaukee, where she served as founding principal and administrator coach.

Under her leadership, Milwaukee College Prep has earned the highest rating on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's State report card showing promise in closing the gap, high achievement, and high growth for students.

Greendale officials said Olson stood out from the other candidates in part because she built a diverse staff in Milwaukee that "increased racial and ethnic representation to align more closely to the students in the school."

She worked previously as a school administrator, special education coach and teacher in Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis public schools.

“Ms. Olson has a record of success in narrowing opportunity gaps and increasing the diversity within school staff,” Kim Amidzich, Superintendent of Greendale Schools said in a statement. “She has a deep understanding of the equity challenges facing our schools. Her experience will be a welcome addition to our team as we move ahead with this important work. I look forward to her engagement in the schools and with our community.”
