Greendale Sees First School Positive Coronavirus Case

Greendale officials said one person at Highland View Elementary School, 5900 S. 51st Street tested positive for COVID-19.

GREENDALE, WI — One person has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Greendale School District, and officials have set safety precautions in place to prevent any potential spread of the virus, district officials confirmed.

In a letter sent to parents Thursday, Greendale officials said one person at Highland View Elementary School, 5900 S. 51st Street tested positive for COVID-19. Officials did not specify whether the person was a teacher or a student, and did not indicate which classroom had the positive case.

It's the first positive case reported at any Greendale school this fall.

"We have completed contact tracing and the students and staff identified as close contacts have been advised to quarantine for 14 days," district officials said in the letter. "The classroom will transition to fully digital learning for the duration of the quarantine period. We are also conducting additional cleaning and disinfecting of the school to control the spread of illness."
