GREENDALE, WI— Meet the Diamond-T fire engine, Greendale's original fire-fighting vehicle from 1938 to 1970. The historic fire engine has been under restoration and is back in village hands, but not to fight fires, according to a news release from the Greendale Historical Society.

Instead, the fire truck will now offer family-oriented rides around the village for select days in July, August and September, the news release said. The Greendale Historical society has been restoring the vehicle ever since its donation in 2015, the release said.

In exchange for donations to keep the Diamond-T fire engine in order, the historical society will offer rides around the village, the release said.

Passengers can hop on board and sit in the open cab for a ride around Greendale from July 1-July 3 or during Village Days from August 12-August 15, the news release said. A $20 donation secures a spot in the front driver's cab and a $10 donation will provide a spot in the back bench seat, according to the release.

The vintage fire engine will also be making appearances at the GTO car show in downtown Greendale on August 21 and at Hay Days downtown on September 25, the release said.

The Diamond-T fire engine arrived back in Greendale in 2015, the release said. It was original back in 1938 and was used by a team of volunteer firefighters until 1970 when it was sold to the first of many private collectors, the release said.

The red wagon is the very same vehicle that once put out the occasional grass fire and protected the homes and businesses of Greendale during the village's founding days, the news release said.

Proceeds from donations will go to maintaining, preserving and restoring the vintage Diamond-T fire engine, according to the news release. Private reservations are also available for special events, the release said.
