Motorcycle Training to Return to Southridge Mall Lot

The Southridge Mall parking lot will likely once again be home to motorcycle training starting this April through October.

On Tuesday, Village Board trustees agreed to send a proposal by House of Harley-Davidson, 6221 W. Layton Ave., Greenfield, to hold motorcycle safety training classes in northeast corner of the mall parking lot to the Village planning commission.

House of Harley has used the lot the last two years.

“I went to it last year and watched and they do a nice job of keeping it under controlled,” Village trustee Ronald Barbian said.  

The classes, if approved, will be Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will feature no more than 12 students and two instructors. Students will use Buell Blast, single-cylinder motorcycles for training. Buell Blasts are relatively small and quiet.

Board President John Hermes said Trustee Sally Chadwick, who lives in the area near the classes, told him she’s received no complaints from neighbors. He added Southridge Mall manager Mary Mokwa, favors the approval.

“It’s worked out very well for (the mall) and we’ve had no issues,” Hermes said.
