New Local Farmers Market Enjoys Successful Opening

More than 1,400 people attended the City of Greenfield’s first-ever Farmers Market, held at Konkel Park on Sunday.

Customers got their hands on not only fresh produce, but other items such as salsa, ravioli, granola and much more. Some even stopped for lunch while others enjoyed some smooth jams from a local jazz band.

Greenfield Mayor Michael Neitzke was thrilled with the turnout, both the attendance and the 30 registered vendors who helped open the market.

“The people are just streaming in,” Neitzke said. “Next week, it sounds like we’re already going to have more vendors. It’s great that the vendors who are here took a chance on us.”

Greenfield Division of Public Works crews worked diligently for three weeks on creating a market space on the northeast corner of Konkel, creating a walking path that allowed customers to move freely from vendor to vendor.

The path was made possible through a $30,000 donation from Dan Jansen Family Fest.

“I have to thank Dan Jansen Fest again,” Neitzke said. “Without their generous support, this would not have been possible in any way shape or form. Without them, this would have never have happened.

“This is going to be a beautiful thing that pulls this park together.”

The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays through October.
