20 Candidates Interested in Greenfield Superintendent Vacancy

According to the firm conducting the search for Conrad Farner's replacement, the number is slightly higher than usual.

As the Greenfield School Board sets its sights on selecting a new superintendent, it will certainly have plenty of options to look at.

Former superintendent Dr. Louis Birchbauer, who is now a consultant for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, told Greenfield Patch on Wednesday that 20 candidates submitted applications for the opening created by Conrad Farner’s resignation in January.

Birchbauer said typical superintendent searches yield 12-15 applicants.

“It’s a high-end application pool,” Birchbauer said. “It’s a good candidate pool.”

Birchbauer said size and location of the school district likely played a role in the higher than usual submitted applications.

Birchbauer said he expects to have a list of candidates the School Board would like to interview by the end of the day March 27. The Board has indicated it will conduct a first batch of interviews the first week of April and another round April 8 or 9.

The final selction could be made as soon as April 17, with the new superintendent being announced at a Board meeting April 29. The new superintendent would not officially start, however, until July 1.

Last month, stakeholders indicated the next superintendent needs to be a strong leader and collaborator.

Former South Milwaukee Superintendent David Ewald was selected as Greenfield’s interim superintendent earlier this month.
