Even at 80, This This Little Lady Can Still Get Turned On
When asked to name the most unique item in the shop, employees at DJ's Antiques & Consignments wasted no time flipping her switch.

The employees at DJ’s Antiques & Consignments see a lot of unique and interesting items come through their doors, but few have made them fall in love like the vintage hula girl lamp.
And it’s easy to see why. Turn the slim and trim lamp on and the grass skirt shimmy-shakes before your very eyes.
The lamp came to the shop about a month ago.

“He was a collector and was cleaning out his house and brought it in to sell hoping someone else would appreciate it,” employee Donn Moczynski said. “He really didn’t know the history about it.”
The lamp from the 1930s or 1940s and was produced by Dodge Inc. it’s made of pot metal, which is porous and fragile and can become very brittle over time and difficult—if not impossible—to repair to its original condition. In other words, the 80-something-year-old hula dancer could easily break a hip if not handled with care.

Given its age and condition, this particular hula lamp is priced at $600. Moczynski said he’s seen them easily reach $1,000.
