More Than 600 Students Sign Petition To Reinstate Ousted Greenfield Football Coach
Greenfield High School football coach Shane Covington was given a notice a termination Tuesday with the option to resign, which he took.

GREENFIELD - Greenfield High School students protested Wednesday and turned in more than 600 signatures in support of high school football Coach Shane Covington, who was given a notice of termination by the school Tuesday.
The school says Covington was given the option to resign, which Covington did, saying the school told him it would be in his best interest. According to WTMJ-4, the coach also was forced to resign as student supervisor and weight room supervisor.
The notice of termination lists professionalism and interpersonal communication part of the reason for the termination. Covington says he was warned by the school about missing work days and being late "on occasion" but feels the move may be racially motivated, though he gave no examples of mistreatment to back up those claims.
