National Night Out to Bring Greenfield Together Tuesday

Greenfield’s National Night Out will be packed with free food and free fun. What else could you ask for?

The city’s police, fire, DPW, health and parks and recreation departments will collectively put on the annual community-gathering event on Tuesday at Konkel Park.

“It’s a great opportunity for people of the community to get out and meet the men and women who work for them,” Greenfield Police Chief Brad Wentlandt said. “It gives us a chance to showcase the different programs and capabilities we have in a very positive atmosphere.”

The University of Wisconsin band will be on hand, thanks to a donation from Dan Jansen Family Fest, and free hot dogs, brats and drinks will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Wentlandt said typically 1,000 to 1,500 meals are provided at the event.

Many vehicles and other apparatus from the fire, police and DPW will be on display. Greenfield police will run K9 demonstrations and have their SWAT team gear on hand.

The fire department will give demonstrations on the importance of home sprinkler systems, there will be inflatables for children and much, much more.

New this year, residents can sign up for the police and fire department’s community emergency notification system on computers right on the Konkel Park grounds. The system automatically lets residents know about neighborhood incidents or impending inclement weather, depending on the settings a user chooses.
