Not Just Cops at This Woman's Door... It's the Chief

It started with a parking lot crash. 

Someone had struck property in the parking lot of Burger King, 4555 W. Forest Home Ave., at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, and was reported to be driving recklessly in the area. 

But it wasn't a patrol officer who tracked the suspect down. 

All other officers were busy, so Greenfield Police Sgt. Charles Falk began the investigation while Capt. Jay Johnson and Chief Brad Wentlandt went to suspect Julie A. Lambert's Milwaukee apartment. They found her there, along with the red Chevrolet Cobalt that witnesses told police had been causing trouble in the lot.

Because officers were tied up with other calls yesterday, members of the command staff responded to a hit and run at Burger King on Forest Home Avenue. Sergeant Falk investigated the crash while Chief Wentlandt and Captain Johnson located the driver and vehicle at an apartment in Milwaukee. The 53 year old Milwaukee woman was charged today with 4th Offense OWI.

The captain and chief were putting her through field sobriety tests, and the police report states she needed their help to get into position. She was so intoxicated, according to the report, that she could not maintain her balance and stand on her own for the one leg stand or walk and turn test. 

The captain then arrested her, handcuffing her and placing her in the rear of a squad that had arrived on the scene. A preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.243, more than three times the legal limit. 

Because Lambert had several prior drunken driving convictions, she was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for a blood draw, and when records were searched, officers discovered she was currently out on bail for a pending drunken driving charge. 

She has now been charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with her fourth drunken driving charge within five years, and misdemeanor bail jumping. She could be sentenced to three years in prison if convicted.

According to the police report, Lambert told officers she had drank a quarter-pint of vodka between 8 and 9 a.m., then went to Burger King. The report also states she admitted striking things in the restaurant parking lot.
