The Greenfield Health Department has scheduled its annual children’s influenza vaccination clinics this fall.
The clinics are Wednesday, Oct. 16; Wednesday, Oct. 30; and Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 2-5 p.m. each day. No appointments are necessary and clients will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
Special funding allows for the administration of the flu vaccine to all children ages 6 months through 18 years, regardless of insurance status. The cost of the vaccination is $10; however no child will be turned away for the inability to pay.
Influenza is a seasonal, respiratory illness caused by a virus. Preventing influenza will reduce sick days and keep many families healthy. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, cough and muscle aches. Most people recover within a week although influenza can last longer causing life-threatening complications in children, older adults and those with chronic health conditions.
The best time to receive an influenza vaccine is during the fall because the influenza season peaks in February.
Annual influenza vaccination significantly reduces the risk of complications and will prevent many people from becoming ill due to the virus.
