In Whitnall's first season under the direction of head coach Jeff Wallack, the Falcons opened a new stadium, finished a tri-champions of the Woodland Conference East Division an qualified for the WIAA postseason.
Whether or not Whitnall repeats the latter two in 2013 remains to be seen, but optimism is brewing for the Falcons and teams across the state after high school football programs held their first official practices Tuesday.
Greenfield Patch stopped by to catch some of the sights and sounds of the first day of the season.
The Falcons, who finished 5-4 overall a year ago, will host a scrimmage at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 16, and open the regular season at Slinger at 7 p.m. Aug. 23.
