2 Wisconsin Badgers Test Positive For COVID-19

Wisconsin Badger football and volleyball players were welcomed back to campus on June 8; now two have tested positive for COVID-19.

MADISON, WI — Two University of Wisconsin student-athletes have tested positive for COVID-19, the university announced Monday.

UW officials released a statement Monday afternoon, saying that two of 117 student-athletes tested positive for the virus. They're self-isolating and UW officials are monitoring their recovery, university officials said.

Officials did not disclose the names of the athletes involved. Wisconsin Badger football and volleyball players were allowed to return to campus starting on June 8. Voluntary strength and conditioning activities began a week later on June 15, the university said in a statement.

According to a Wisconsin State Journal report, 100 out of 129 Badger football players participated in the first day of workouts last week Monday.

Athletes on the university's men's and women's basketball teams are slated to return later this month as well as players on the university's men's and women's hockey teams.

Student-athletes completed health information forms, underwent a physical exam and took a COVID-19 test, according to media reports.
