3-Year-Old Boy Shot And Killed Himself At Home In Milwaukee

Neighbors have said a mother is distraught after the Saturday night shooting police said occurred after the boy found a gun in the home.

MILWAUKEE — A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself inside a home in Milwaukee's Merrill Park neighborhood Saturday night, according to multiple local news reports.

Police said the boy shot himself around 10:30 p.m. in a home near the corner of North 31st and East Michigan streets, WISN and others have reported. A gun the young boy found inside the home was used in the shooting, according to reports.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in the boy's death, but the exact charges were not yet available as of late in the day on Sunday. The boy had not been identified by that time, either.

Merrill Park area residents told WISN the boy's mother was "distraught" in the hours following her son's death.

"The heartbreak in her scream, that was scary in itself," Santana Medina told the news outlet.

"For her to wake up today and know that she's one child less is heartbreaking. I just pray that God covers them and keeps them because today isn't going to be a good day for them."
