Classes Canceled, No Gunman Found At Kiel School

A school staff member heard gunshots, according to police.

Kiel High School has been evacuated and classes have been canceled Friday. Several police officers are at the school and a SWAT team has been called for an incident at the school, according to media reports.

Multiple media outlets are reporting a large police presence at the school.

In a brief press conference, Kiel Police Chief Dave Funkhouser reported that a staff member heard gunshots outside the south entrance of the school. However, a gunman has not been located, the chief said. Kiel Police were at the school within a minute of the report, Funkhouser said.

"As of right now, we have found no evidence and no gunman," Funkhouser said. "The perimeters of the school, the interior of the school, and immediate surrounding area of the school are bing searched right now."

He also noted that there were no injuries.

The school earlier in the week had received threat. Police, however, found no "credible information to validate" the threat, reported police.

Classes at Lakeshore Technical College also have been canceled, and the college is currently under a lockdown. It is not clear whether the incidents are related. "We have received notice of a perceived threat near campus," announced the college at 8 a.m. Friday.
