Former County Supervisor Peggy West Accused Of Election Fraud

Peggy West​, the former Milwaukee County supervisor, has been charged with election fraud, according to police.

Peggy West, the former Milwaukee County supervisor, has been charged with election fraud, according to a press release from Milwaukee police on Thursday.

Police investigated a complaint referred from the Milwaukee County Ethics Board regarding nomination papers that West circulated and filed, according to the press release.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that District Attorney John Chisholm has recused himself from the case. Chisholm endorsed West during her failed bid for a fifth term on the District 12 County Board. The district attorney's office says a special prosecutor had been appointed. The name of the special prosecutor has not been released.

West lost the county board election in April to Sylvia Ortiz Velez.

In a complaint with the Ethics Board, Ortiz Velez accused West of lying about circulating nomination papers to get on the ballot. The complaint said someone else had collected the signatures.

West is expected to make her first court appearance on Monday.
