Juneteenth Day Marches, Rallies Planned In Milwaukee Metro Area

Juneteenth is this Friday, and a number of rallies have been planned across the city to recognize the day and speak out against racism.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Juneteenth Day, held every year on June 19, is recognized as the oldest commemoration of black liberation in the United States as the Emancipation Proclamation was enforced for the first time on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas.

This year, a number of events from rallies, marches, sit-ins and commemorations will be taking place across the Milwaukee metro area and other parts of Wisconsin as Black Lives Matter-themed events continue into their third week following the death of George Floyd in police custody. On Friday, Milwaukee will get a Black Lives Matter street mural on the city's near north side.

Below is a list of events happening Friday around the area.
