Livestream: Biden Officially Becomes Democratic Nominee

Day Two of the Democratic National Convention featured speeches and a state-by-state virtual roll call to officially pit Biden v. Trump.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Former Vice President Joe Biden officially captured the Democratic nomination for president Tuesday evening, climbing over the 2,374-delegate mark needed to represent the party in November against President Donald Trump.

The delegates were announced in state-to-state virtual video snippets in what was called the “Roll Call Across America,”the first of its kind vote at this first-of-its-kind Democratic National Convention.

The voting finished with votes cast by Biden's home state of Delaware, and the convention showed then showed him with wife and family interspersed with scenes of supporters around the country cheering him on.

"Thank you very, very much, from the bottom of my heart," Biden said, adding he was looking forward to answering the vote with his acceptance speech on Thursday.

Biden's promising candidacy stumbled out of the primary gates and the fight became intense — and crowded, at one time featuring more than two dozen candidates.

In a concerted show of unity, some of those primary opponents — including Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg — participated in the virtual roll to nominate Biden.

President Bill Clinton and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez headlined the second evening of the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, to be followed by Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden.
