"We remind motorists if you have to leave your home to drive for road conditions, wear your seatbelt. Make sure your headlights are on. Double or even triple your following distance between your vehicle and other motorists," the sheriff's office warned.

Deputies also advise drivers that if they find themselves in a ditch, turn on their hazard lights, remain in their vehicle and call 911. If drivers are in a crash and their vehicle is still drivable, it’s safer to drive off the freeway to the nearest exit.
