Milwaukee Deputies: 'Reckless' Driver Arrested Following Chase

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A driver is behind bars after leading deputies on a high-speed chase, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Izell I. Harris has been charged with fleeing, recklessly endangering safety and felon in possession of a firearm.
Deputies said on Wednesday shortly before 1 p.m., they observed Harris in a Hyundai Tucson driving recklessly along the 5500 block of West Hampton Avenue without registered plates and weaving through traffic at an estimated speed of 80 mph in a 35 mph.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies eventually caught up to Harris at a traffic signal and noticed him waving a semi-automatic handgun. Deputies activated their emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop.
Deputies said Harris slowed down but continued until he stopped along the 6000 block of W. Mill Road; however, before deputies exited their vehicle, Harris fled the scene.

According to deputies, a vehicle pursuit ensured until Harris descended from his vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued Harris until he ran into an unknown resident in the 6100 block of North Port.
Deputies established a perimeter, and the MCSO SWAT team was notified that Harris was barricaded inside a home.
Authorities said SWAT negotiators established a dialogue with one of the occupants inside the home and eventually seven people came and were briefly detained.
One of the people who exited the home was positively identified as Harris, deputies said. He was taken into custody and after a search warrant was obtained a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and an extended magazine with 30 round of ammunition were recovered.
