Milwaukee Students Return To In-Person Learning In April

METRO MILWAUKEE, WI — More than a year after the coronavirus pandemic shuttered schools across Wisconsin, most Milwaukee Public School students will head back to classrooms next month, the district’s board of education decided Tuesday.
Students who choose to return will attend in-person class every day except Wednesday, when schools will close for cleaning, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Anyone who wishes to stay home and finish the remainder of the school year remotely can do so, the board decided.
Students will return on the following dates:

- April 14: Kindergarten through third grade
- April 19: Grades four through eight
- April 26: High school students failing at least one class, and all high school seniors
The decision by Milwaukee school administrators came following emotional pleas from parents and students, who said they “desperately wanted to see their friends and teachers again after an isolating and tumultuous year.”

City Needs Help Keeping The Lights On
Milwaukee residents will soon see a new fee appear on their city utility bills, one intended to help the city keep the lights on — literally. The new fee, designed to help the city pay for its street lights, will be calculated as $1 per linear foot of a property line.
