No Summerfest Shuttles Through Milwaukee County Transit
MCTS says it will not be able to offer special summer service due to a shortage of bus drivers.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The Milwaukee County Transit System said on Monday that it would not be offering special summer services to Summerfest this year due to driver shortages.
The agency said the seasonal shuttle along Wisconsin Avenue and 'Freeway Flyers' transport between Park and Ride lots and Summerfest would not operate this year as well.
The agency said festivalgoers can still ride regular bus routes - including the GoldLine, Greenline, Route 14, Route 15, Route 30 or Route 33 - to get within walking distance of the Henry Maier Festival Park grounds.

"Tens of thousands of people rely on MCTS every day to get to work, school, medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other critical destinations," the agency said. "To ensure there are enough bus drivers available to run these daily routes that so many people’s livelihoods depend on, MCTS had to make the difficult decision to suspend its special service to Summerfest in 2021."
MCTS said that is has hired 125 new bus drivers in the last year but is still short 60 positions, which is its lowest count in five years.
