Thunderstorms With Threat Of Damaging Winds Expected Thursday

The National Weather Service reports an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight, some with the possibility of being severe.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Thunderstorms, with some forecast to be severe, are expected to move southeastward through Southern Wisconsin Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region, including the counties of Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine and Kenosha. The main hazard from the storms is expected to be damaging winds with the NWS also forecasting large hail and heavy rainfall.

In its short range forecast, the NWS writes that there is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Midwest Thursday and into the night.

The bulk of thunderstorms are expected late Thursday and into the early morning hours on Friday.

According to the NWS, storms may linger into Friday morning and there's another potential for thunderstorms Sunday.

Below is the detailed weather forecast for Thursday night from the National Weather Service:

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5am. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Low around 68. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7am. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. Northwest wind around 10 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 84. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Low around 63. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
