Wisconsin Coronavirus Cases Near 8,000

The numbers represent an increase of 293 cases from the previous day as well as five new deaths.

Wisconsin neared 8,000 cases of the new coronavirus Sunday afternoon while deaths reached 339, according to the latest numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Additionally, health officials say that nearly 78,000 tests for the virus have come back negative in the state.

The numbers represent an increase of 293 cases from the previous day as well as five new deaths. On Sunday, 11.1 percent of the state's tests for the virus came back positive, an increase from 10.3 percent on Saturday.

Wisconsin's capacity for testing for the illness has increased significantly since the onset of the virus, with officials saying more than 11,000 cases can be administered daily. A large amount of testing is seen as critical in fighting the virus.

Milwaukee, Brown, Kenosha, Dane, Racine and Waukesha counties have the most number of cases in the state.

As of Sunday afternoon, 347 patients are hospitalized in the state and 116 patients are in the intensive care unit.
