10 Tips for Attending the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills

If you are attending the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills, here are 10 tips to get the most out of your experience!

Golf fans- are you ready for the 2017 U.S. Open to be held June 12th-18th at Erin Hills in Erin Hills, WI?
This is the 117 U.S. Open Championship, and the first U.S. Open to be held at Erin Hills, which opened in 2006. 156 players will be competing for a purse of $12,000,000- with the winner taking home $2,160,000.

Erin, WI is just 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee. There will be many players, fans, and vendors in the area. If you are among the many to attend the event, here are some pointers to get the most out of your experience.

  • Check out the information at www.usga.org/tickets/html to buy tickets, view ticket faqs, spectator info and more.
  • Dress smart for the Wisconsin weather! There could be sun, rain, cool winds, and extreme heat, all within the span of a few hours. Even the best of our weathermen get caught off guard at times. Be prepared. Bring sunscreen and your umbrella!
  • For a premium experience, consider club tickets for access to the 1895 Club, which is an all-inclusive tent facility near the 10th hole at Erin Hills. Air conditioning, comfortable seating, exclusive restrooms and food and drink are available at no additional cost.
  • Make your restaurant reservations early! With the influx of people to the area, restaurants and bars are sure to fill quickly. Your chances for a better experience increase if you head out of the immediate area and into the nearby surrounding communities. We suggest heading east a few miles down Hubertus Road to Johnny Manhattans for the best steaks in the area and cocktails after your day at the Open.
  • Lodging- hotels and motels in the area and the surrounding communities are filling up quickly, and many are already fully booked for the duration of the open. A smarter option is to consider renting temporary housing in the area. Temporary housing providers like Home Networks are offering fully furnished apartments, condos and homes for rent for the duration of the Open. The prices are comparable and in some cases cheaper than hotel rates, but you get more space and privacy for your money. Many have luxurious amenities too like whirlpools, saunas, and sundecks. Check out http://homenetworksllc.com/u-s-open-2017-housing-housing-near-erin-hills-wi/ for more information.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water!
  • There are USGA mobile apps, including U.S. Open apps for iOS, Android, and iPad. The iPad app promises a “true second-screen experience”. Get your app here: http://www.usga.org/tickets/spectator-information-2017usopen.html
  • Have a game plan for your spectatorship in mind- Are you going to follow a player or group of players from hole to hole, or are you going to stay put at a single hole and watch each set of players from that location? Think about what you want your experience to be before your attend.
  • Know your golf course etiquette- Know when to be quiet, and be sure your cell phone is silenced. Even the shutter sound from snapping a photo can be a distraction.
  • Be proud and have fun! Not only is this the first U.S. Open at Erin Hills, it’s the first U.S. Open to be held in Wisconsin! Come on out to see the best in golf first hand, and celebrate being a part of this history as we enjoy the world-wide golf spotlight from June 12-18th.
