80% of Wisconsin Residents Favor More State Funding for K-12 Public Schools

Polls suggest residents side with Governor Walker, who has proposed a $649 million increase in school spending over the next two years.

According to a new poll by Marquette University, 80% of Wisconsin residents surveyed favor increasing state funding in the budget for K-12 public schools and 74% responded as "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with the job public schools are doing in the community.

According to a story by Urban Milwaukee, only 17% of those polled oppose more funding for public schools and 20% were dissatisfied with public school performance.

Governor Scott Walker has proposed a $649 million increase for schools in the state budget over the next two years, while some legislators are critics of the proposed increase, especially State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, who favors some increase in school spending, though smaller than what the governor has proposed.
