African American Baraboo Student Tells it Like he Feels
Racism is Taught - So where did the students get the comfort of the N-word with the "hard R"?

BARABOO, Wis. —Jonathan Schieber doesn't think the people in the small city of Baraboo are racist, but says there's a history of people making offensive jokes that can "get under some people's skin."
The Baraboo High School senior, who is black, says he's heard racist comments for years.

The systemic and institutional racism is alive and well.
It appears that Jonathan has had to provide a form of survival in the majority Caucasian environment - too typical of what African Americans endure daily. He uses his headphones to survive.
The optics of wearing headphones in school could get him in trouble.
First of all, it could diminish his percentage of accuracy in information for his academic pursuit.
Secondly, he could eliminate clarity in what is being transmitted.
Thirdly, he would most likely brand himself with staff and adults as "not serious" and "goofying off".
