SHOREWOOD,WI—The Village Board began discussions about the Lake Drive reconstruction project, which isn't programmed to occur until 2025.
Since Lake Drive is a state highway, the project will be completed in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
A representative from WisDOT provided a summary of the anticipated project to the Village Board Monday and provided a variety of options to the Village Board.

The Board expressed to WisDOT they wish to see little to no changes but would like WisDOT to follow up with Milwaukee to assure the striping would be consistent to what occurs to the south of Shorewood. Over the next few years, there will be continued discussions between the Village and WisDOT in regards to this project, according to Village Manager, Rebecca Ewald.
The Village made a decision back in 2017 to restripe and resurface Lake Drive to improve the condition of the roadway, reduce the number of lanes from four to two, and implement better safety measures such as additional crosswalks. It was anticipated for the resurfacing to last approximately seven years for when WisDOT was prepared to complete the full reconstruction of Lake Drive.

WisDOT is evaluating the Lake Drive project in the Village of Shorewood for pavement replacement. The definition of a pavement replacement project includes all needed elements to improve pavement condition, safety, and municipal utilities impacting roadways such as:
- Subgrade improvements, if determined to be needed through borings or other methods.
- Replace and upsize sanitary/storm sewer or watermain, if deemed necessary by reports or televising means.
- Replace existing curb and gutter, and/or sidewalks, if impacted by the project.
- Install and/or update curb ramps to meet ADA compliance.
- Evaluate for bike and pedestrian accommodations as part of project development.
