New Artisan Market Coming To Shorewood Starting In July

A market for artists to sell their work is coming to Hubbard and River Park this summer. The market is inviting artisans to be a vendor.

SHOREWOOD, WI— The Board of Trustees approved an art market to join Summer Sounds in Hubbard Park each Wednesday starting July 21. The market will also join a number of other Shorewood events.

Shorewood Artisan Market will have its opening event on July 10 at River Park, a Facebook post from the market said. The string of markets throughout summer will provide a place for local artists to sell their work such as paintings, photography, drawings, sculptures and more, according to the artist application document.

The market's mission is to support local artists and host a diverse and unique collection of art from the greater Milwaukee area, the application document said. 2021 will be the first year of the market and it is expected to continue in 2022, the application document said.

Shorewood Artisan Market has made pledges on multiple fronts for what the market will ultimately be. The market is dedicated to four principles: diversity, community, service and artistic expression, according to application documents.

One measure being undertaken by the market is a charity auction sourced from the artists. Vendors are being asked in the application form to donate one art piece of theirs to be auctioned off in support of an area non-profit.

The market will not sell commercial products, only original work created by the artists. On that note, kits and hobby crafts will not be accepted into the market, according to the artist application document. What does get accepted into the market will be decided by a committee, the application document said.

Those committee decisions will focus on mediums, artist availability and quality of work. Artists from across the Milwaukee area are all encouraged to apply to be a vendor at the event, the document said.

Artists will have to pay $25 for a booth per show, according to the application document. The Shorewood Artisan Market is only open to individuals 18 or older, according to the artist application, but a youth market is being planned.
