New CDC Guidance But Masks Still Mandated In Shorewood For Now

SHOREWOOD, WI — Shorewood's mask mandate is still in effect regardless of new CDC guidance Thursday stating that most fully vaccinated individuals will no longer need to wear masks inside or outside, according to Assistant Village Manager Tyler Burkart.

Shorewood still has its mask mandate in effect so these new guidelines do not currently apply, Burkart said.

Fully vaccinated people are now safely able to resume all activities without masks or physical distancing unless business, state or local rules state otherwise, according to the CDC interim guidelines.

The Village Board will meet Monday to discuss how and if the village mask mandate should continue.

There is no statewide mask mandate in Wisconsin because the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck it down.

Private businesses are free to create their own rules and guidelines surrounding masks, according to the CDC guidelines.
