Police Report: Milwaukee Man Admits to Hit-and-Run, during Drunken Driving Traffic Stop

Shorewood police arrested an 18-year-old Milwaukee man for drunken driving early Saturday morning after he was spotted driving erratically on North Oakland Avenue and later admitted to a hit-and-run in Milwaukee.

Police say the man was spotted driving on East Capitol Drive around midnight when his car started to have some mechanical problems and began to swerve from side to side.

The man was pulled over in the 1100 block of East Capitol Drive where police noticed he had damage to the front-end of his car and appeared intoxicated. He admitted to striking a parked van in Milwaukee and leaving the scene.

The man failed a field sobriety test and a breath test later revealed he had a .17 blood alcohol level.

  • A 17-year-old Shorewood boy was transported to Columbia St. Mary's hospital June 11 after he ingested seven 5mg Ambien pills, in an attempt to get high, police say. The incident occurred at the boy's residence in the 4400 block of North Murray Avenue at 9:30 a.m. The boy was later released to his mother. 
  • Sometime between 11 a.m. on June 8 and 8:39 a.m. on Wednesday, $700 in cash was taken from a bank bag in an office in the building located at 4447 N. Oakland Ave. Police say there are no signs of forced entry to the office.
  • Police say a man took a woman's puppy on the Oak Leaf Trail Friday, but they are investigating the validity of the woman's complaint. The woman told police the man approached her on a bicycle in the 3500 block of the trail, grabbed her 6-month-old German Sheppard and left southbound with the puppy in a basket attached to the bike. But, the woman knows the suspect, and it's unclear who owns the puppy, police say.
  • The front passenger window of a car was smashed out and about $10 in quarters taken in a vehicle break-in on Friday. The incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of East Olive Street. There was also $350 in damage to the car.
  • Two women and a man absconded from a taxicab early Friday morning in the 3900 block of North Oakland Avenue, without paying a $8.50 fare.
  • A Shorewood woman reported damage to her car on Saturday including all four tires slashed and her passenger side doors keyed. Damage totaled $600. A witness told police they saw a man slash the tires and leave the area in a grey and blue Dodge Neon. 
  • An unlocked car was illegally entered and $5 in change taken in a break-in that occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on Thursday and 6 a.m. on Friday.
  • A woman passed a fraudulent check for $114 at , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., Sunday morning, police say. Police have no suspects.
  • A bicycle locked to a tree in the 4100 block of North Ardmore Avenue was reported stolen June 11. The bicycle was a rental through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the complaint told police. Police are attempting to contact the university.
