School Board To Discuss Changes To Student Face Covering Policy
The Shorewood School Board will discuss removing its face covering policy for students at a meeting on Tuesday.

SHOREWOOD, WI — The Shorewood School Board will discuss revising its mask policy at its meeting Tuesday to allow those in seventh-grade and up to not wear masks on school grounds.
The revisions would set August 2 as the date the District fully removes its face covering policy for students at Shorewood High School and Shorewood Intermediary School. The proposed policy changes are largely for the 2021-2022 school year.
Current district policy still requires face coverings for all when on campus, but the last day of this school year is Wednesday.

The change would still require those under 12, currently not eligible for vaccination, to wear a face covering while on school grounds or in school sponsored activities. Students eligible for vaccination, anyone 12 and up, would not be required to wear a face covering.
The wide availability of vaccinations for students in seventh grade and up allows the face covering requirement to be lifted for those age groups, the proposed policy change states.

The district decided to keep its own mask policy in place following the expiration of the Village's own mask mandate on May 17. District administrators will continue to monitor Shorewood's COVID-19 rates and may revise policy as necessary down the road, the proposed changes state.
