Shorewood Burglar Caught After Metro Market Foray: Report

Police say they caught the burglar with a suitcase that had been reported stolen, along with eight stolen candy bars and some liquor.

SHOREWOOD, WI — A man accused of stealing a woman's suitcase was tracked down and arrested after authorities say he tried stealing lunch at the local Metro Market following the theft.

Gerald Gatson has been arrested and charged with burglary and retail theft, court documents say.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, Shorewood police were sent to the Metro Market at just after 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 18. for a report of a retail theft.

Investigators say officers caught up with Gaston after a customer spotted him taking food from the food court area, only to leave the store.

Police say they caught up with Gatson down the street, where he was found with a stolen bottle of liquor. Police said Gatson was also found with a suitcase that matched the description of the suitcase that was reported stolen from a storage locker belonging to an apartment resident on the 4400 block of N. Wilson Drive.

Investigators say the suitcase contained three pairs of shoes, eight candy bars that appeared to have been stolen from Metro Market, an apple, a can of alcohol, a DVD player and a bike chain.
