Shorewood To Celebrate Fourth Of July With Neighborhood Flags

If you see a small flag in front of your house on July 4, it's part of Shorewood's Fourth of July observance.

SHOREWOOD, WI — Shorewood officials came up with a new way to observe the Fourth of July this year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In lieu of the traditional Independence Day festivities, which were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Shorewood Foundation's volunteer board of directors will place a small American flag on the parkway in front of every Shorewood residence.

"In Shorewood, the Fourth of July has always been a celebration of community as much as of history", said Alan Purintun, Foundation board president in a statement this week. "We hope this small gesture, touching every member of the community, ably reflects that spirit."
