Shorewood Police Chase Went Through Neighborhoods, River: Report

A 26-year-old Milwaukee man accused of choking a woman ran from police through neighborhoods and later through the Milwaukee River.

SHOREWOOD, WI — A 26-year-old Milwaukee man accused of choking a woman, only to run from police through Shorewood neighborhoods and later through the Milwaukee River, has been arrested and charged, authorities say.

According to court documents, Nicholas Mike has been charged with two counts of strangulation and suffocation, burglary, disorderly conduct, bail jumping and resisting an officer.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, officers were sent to a Shorewood home on the night of Jan. 26 on a report of a disturbance between a man and a woman inside.

Police said police went to the home, where a woman told officers that Mike ran out the back door of the house. Police said they found Mike walking south toward the Oak Leaf Trail.

When police tried tracking him down, police said Mike fled east across N. Cambridge Ave. through several yards and across N. Newhall Street. Police said Mike was ordered to lay on the ground to be arrested.

According to the criminal complaint, Mike got up and ran toward the Milwaukee River, and went in. Police said Mike was arrested after he exited the freezing-cold river.

When police talked with the woman who called police, investigators say Mike became embroiled in a verbal argument with the woman, only to have Mike escalate the dispute. Police said Mike threw water on the woman, and choked her two separate times. Police also said the woman tried locking Mike out of the house, only to have him break through the door to get inside.
