SHS Alum Want to Renovate Teachers' Lounge

The SHS Class of 1963 plans to donate a microwave, kitchen supplies and wall decorations as part of the SHS Alumniand Community Celebration on Saturday.

As part of the annual large-scale Shorewood High School Alumni and Community Celebration on Saturday, members of one Shorewood class are creating their own service project to benefit the school they graduated from 50 years ago.

Led by Kathy Chilton, class of 1963, and beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, a group of thoughtful alumni will be giving the SHS staff lounge a makeover, before the picnic begins at 11 a.m.

"Teachers [and staff] deserve a haven and we, who have benefitted from the good teachers of Shorewood, are happy to try to brighten their space,” Chilton said of the project.

Plans for the lounge makeover include a new microwave, the addition of kitchen items and even wall décor, such as pictures, a message board and magnetic wall areas.

“We are so thrilled and lucky that our Alumni have decided to give back to our high school,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Lexmond said. “It’s things like this that make Shorewood such a special place.”

The celebration won’t end once the service project is complete, however. Events will continue throughout the day, including performances by local musicians and bands, tours of SHS, a swim meet, a Sock Hop, bowling and more. Three Lions Pub and LakeFront Brewery food and drink will be available throughout the day.

Saturday’s events are free and open to the public. More information and a complete schedule of events can be found on the Shorewood High School Alumni Website.
