GLENDALE, WI — Sprecher is hosting a root beer float giveaway of a different type this year, citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Wisconsin as the reason why.

Sprecher is inviting people to drive up to its brewery at 701 W. Glendale Ave. from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 for a free root beer float, and to set a world record for the World’s Largest Root Beer Float Drive-Thru.

Event organizers are calling it "The Great Sprecher Root Beer Floatilla" and hopes for a record-setting response.

Sprecher officials said they decided to host the drive-thru event as a safer alternative to a more traditional root beer float giveaway, after many of the state’s summer festivals and events have already been canceled.

Officials say they're prepared to make as many as 50,000 root beer floats — which equates to 7,800 gallons of root beer and 4,000 tubs of ice cream.
