Technology Gives Student Artists Added Voice in St. Robert's Fine Arts Show Thursday

In addition to musical performances, the show will feature student artwork — some with an interactive twist via QR codes containing audio recordings of student artists explaining their works.

St. Robert K-5 through fifth grade students will show off their artistic talents in the school's annual Spring Fine Arts Show Thursday night at 6:30.

In addition to musical performances by each grade and the beginning strings ensemble, the show will also feature student artwork — some with an interactive twist. For the first time, fifth graders have embedded quick response (QR) codes into their work which contain audio recordings of the students explaining his or her work in their own words.

Viewers can use any camera-ready smart technology with a QR reader app to scan the QR code and hear the recordings. The interactive work is a culmination of year-long, cross-curricular Junior Docent Program, in which fifth graders research an artist and a particular piece of art at the Milwaukee Art Museum, then produce a report and an interpretative art piece.

Students are also required to prepare a presentation based on his or her research and interpretative piece, which is captured in the audio recording. Admittance to the show is free and all are invited to come, see and hear what St. Robert's fine arts programs have to offer. For more information visit www.strobert.org.
