WISN: Empowering the Blind, One Braille Menu At A Time
About a dozen Shorewood restaurants received braille menus Tuesday afternoon, sparking a pilot project that other communities could follow in the future.

Braille restaurant menus are a rare treat for blind people in the Milwaukee area.
But Cheryl Orgas and Cheri McGrath have made it a reality in Shorewood, launching a project adding braille menus at more than a dozen restaurants in the village.Â
As the executive director of Audio and Braille Literacy Enhancement, Inc., Orgas decided to create braille menus for nearly 25 restaurants in her hometown, making the village the first to adopt a community-wide braille menu program. More than a dozen restaurants currently have the menus, with more to come over the summer.Â
To cover the cost of creating the menus, the non-profit organization reached out to Shorewood Men's Club, which contributed a $500 grant for the effort.Â
