12 Mountain Brook High School Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Twelve of Mountain Brook High School's student qualified as National Merit Semifinalists after taking a qualifying exam.

VESTAVIA HILL, AL — Twelve Mountain Brook High School students qualified as National Merit Semifinalists after scoring in the top percentile of the state on the Preliminary SAT, tying with Vestavia Hills for the most semifinalists in Alabama. The students were chosen out of the nearly 1.6 million high school juniors who took the test.
MBHS semifinalists are Jonah Allen, Robert Chandler, Anne Cole, Henry Evans, William Forbus, Joseph Johnson, Haskins Jones, Elizabeth Lipp, Ann Lott, John Pankey, Andrew Sisson, and John Smith.
In order to qualify, semifinalists have to fall in the top-scoring percentile for their state.

Less than 1 percent of participants qualify as semifinalists, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and 16,000 students across the country were named semifinalists, and 221 are from Alabama.
Finalists will be announced at the beginning of 2018, and will be eligible for more than $32 million in scholarships, according to the NMSC.
