Birmingham Zoo Hosts Christmas Events

The Birmingham Zoo will transform into a winter wonderland featuring over a million Christmas lights with its ZooLight Safari.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — One of Birmingham's kid-friendly destinations is ramping it up for the holiday season. The Birmingham Zoo will transform into a winter wonderland featuring over a million Christmas lights with its ZooLight Safari, sponsored by Wells Fargo.

The event will run for 18 nights in December, complete with holiday music and snow machines. The zoo has shifted some of its rides to accommodate the season, including the Shipt Candy Cane Ride, Jingle Bell Carousel, Yuletide Slide and Santa Rollers, and the event will feature a singing Santa through Dec. 23. There will also be a decorated tree standing almost 30 feet tall in the Africa portion of the zoo.

ZooLight Safari will run Dec. 8-10, Dec. 15-23 and Dec. 26-31. All rides require a wristband purchase at the gate.

The zoo will also host a Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 16 at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., serving egss, pancakes and sausage at the Kudzoo Cafe. The event price includes zoo admission and a ride wristband along with the breakfast. Kids will receive a special gift when they arrive.

Tickets $30 for adults and $25 for kids, and can be purchased in advance online to reserve a spot.
