Birmingham Zoo Introduces Henley Park Event Space
With the first phase of its three-part renovations complete, the Birmingham Zoo cut the ribbon on its new event space, Henley Park.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — The first of three phases to renovate the Birmingham Zoo is now finished and open to the public. Henley Park, the zoo's new event space, held its first gathering to celebrate its completion. Board members and other community figures, including Mayor William Bell, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.
Henley Park is the first step in an $18 million plan to revitalize the Birmingham attraction. The Renew the Zoo campaign will enable the construction of a new Asian Passage exhibit, a brand new entrance and plaza, and an updated predator enclosure. The projects are expected to be completed in 2020. The updates are necessary not only to encourage visitors, but to maintain accreditation status and quality standards for the wildlife in the park.
The zoo will be holding another event on Friday, Sept. 15, to help raise money for its upcoming improvements. This year's Zoo Gala, "Mambo with the Macaws," runs $200 a ticket for zoo members and $250 for non-members.
