Christmas Tree Recycling: Mountain Brook Partners With Zoo
The City of Mountain Brook and the Birmingham Zoo are partnering for the 12th annual Christmas tree recycling event.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — While some people take down their Christmas trees the day after Christmas, other people wait until well after New Year's Day to move their tree out of their homes. Whatever day people may decide to throw out their trees, Mountain Brook city officials urge residents to recycle their trees rather than leaving them out for trash collection.
For that reason, the City of Mountain Brook and the Birmingham Zoo are partnering for the 12th annual Christmas tree recycling event.
Residents are encouraged to drop their trees off at the zoo’s construction entrance during normal business hours, from Dec. 26 - Jan. 11.

Only "clean" trees — free of decorations and wire — can be processed by the chipper. Garland, wreaths, and other small debris must be hauled away as trash, as separating it from usable material is a time-consuming task, city officials said. "Please help the volunteers in this regard and help prevent damage to machinery by removing foreign objects before bringing your trees," the city said in a statement.
