Fire Department Presents Lifesaving Award To Mountain Brook Girl

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — The Mountain Brook Fire Department honored local 8 year old Madelyn Hyde for her role in saving her father's life. The department presented Hyde with Lifesaving Award this week to commemorate her heroism.

Earlier this year in June, Hyde was at home with her father and two siblings when her father began to exhibit signs of a medical emergency. She proceeded to text her mother and called 911 to get first responders out to her home.

"We didn't really understand the whole magnitude of who called ... and we show up and see Miss Madelyn standing there with a little brother and another younger sibling," Lt. Brent Cooper said to Village Living. "So we're seeing an [8] year old step into the role of an adult."
