Former Spartan Named To Big East All-Freshman Team

Former Mountain Brook hoops star Colby Jones was named to the Big East All-Freshman team for this season.

CINCINNATI, OH — Mountain Brook basketball fans have much to celebrate after the Spartans claimed the Class 6A state championship Wednesday. Sunday, the Big East Conference gave Spartans hoops fans something else to celebrate as for MBHS standout Colby Jones was named to the Big East All-Freshman team.

Jones is averaging 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds this season for Xavier University. The Musketeers are 13-7 on the year.

Jones was the 2020 Class 7A Player of the Year as voted by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, and averaged 25.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg., 3.2 apg. and 2.5 spg. as a senior, while shooting 59.2 percent from the field, including 48.8 percent from 3-point range.

The Big East All-Freshman team includes:

  • Chuck Harris, Butler, G, 6-2, 190, Washington, D.C.
  • Adama Sanogo, Connecticut, F, 6-9, 240, Bamako, Mali
  • Dawson Garcia, Marquette, F, 6-11, 235, Prior Lake, Minn.
  • Posh Alexander, St. John’s, F, 6-0, 190, Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • Colby Jones, Xavier, G, 6-5, 195, Birmingham, Ala.
