Former Spartans QB Earns Southern Conference Honors

Former Mountain Brook football standout Hamp Sisson was honored by the Southern Conference this week.

GREENVILLE, SC — Mountain Brook football fans certainly remember quarterback Hamp Sisson, the 2018 graduate who started for three years for the Spartans. Sisson has continued to make waves on the gridiron at Furman University, being named the Southern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Sisson, a redshirt sophomore for the Paladins who sports a 4.0 GPA in health and exercise science, passed for 277 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another score in Furman's 44-37 overtime win over Samford on Saturday.

He helped rally Furman from a 24-7 deficit, throwing two fourth quarter touchdown passes, including a 73-yard scoring strike to tight end Ryan Miller with 2:39 remaining, to force overtime.

His other scoring toss covered 10 yards. Sisson opened the scoring for Furman with a four-yard run in the first quarter.

The comeback win was Furman's largest in Paladin Stadium history, which spans 236 games beginning in 1981. In his first full season as Furman's starting quarterback, Sisson has passed for 716 yards and eight touchdowns through three games.
