Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day: What To Know

Dispose safely those hazardous materials in your home during Jefferson County's Household Hazard Waste Collection Day.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Mountain Brook residents can sefaely dispose of any hazardous materials that might be in their homes at this year's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, set for April 24.

Hazardous items can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at one of three locations in Jefferson County:

  • Site 1: First Baptist Church Gardendale South Location (940Main Street, Gardendale, 35071)
  • Site 2: Classic Car Motoring (3900 Grants Mill Road, Irondale, 35210)
  • Site 3: City of Bessemer Public Works Laydown Yard (1205 15thAvenue North, Bessemer, 35020)

Only Jefferson County residents are allowed to drop off at these locations and proof of residence will be required.

Items collected include:

  • Ammunition
  • Batteries (household, car, rechargeable)
  • Electronics (including televisions and CRT monitors)
  • Household cooking oil and grease (new and used)
  • Light bulbs
  • Paint (latex, oil, stains, solvents)
  • Paper shredding
  • Yard chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides)
  • Prescription drugs and expired over the counter meds
  • Tires
  • White goods (large appliances, grills, lawn mowers, etc.)
  • Vehicle fluids (antifreeze, gasoline, oil)

Participants bringing items will remain in their vehicles with the windows up. Place items to be unloaded in the back of the vehicle, preferably the trunk, pick-up or on a utility trailer.
