Mountain Brook Grad Jack Royer Named CBS 42 Anchor

Mountain Brook alumnus Jack Royer will be CBS-42's co-anchor for its nightly news.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, the old saying goes. And that is the case with CBS-42 reporter Jack Royer, son of Mike Royer, a 40-year veteran of the news industry in Birmingham. WIAT, the CBS affiliate in Birmingham, announced Monday that Jack will be the new co-anchor for the station's news broadcasts at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. with veteran news anchor Sherri Jackson.

Royer will begin his new role at the station July 16. He is one of the youngest news anchors to take over this role, but his pedigree suggests he is up for the challenge.

Royer joined CBS 42 News in 2017 as a reporter working at the station’s Tuscaloosa News Bureau, then quickly moved into reporting throughout the state and anchoring duties. Prior to joining CBS 42, Royer covered the change of power from former Alabama Governor Robert Bentley to Governor Kay Ivey.

Royer graduated from Mountain Brook High School, and then from the University of Alabama. He earned the Judges Award of Merit from the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association for Best Small Market Sportscaster in 2012.
