MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — The Mountain Brook Police Department Tactical Team, Drone Unit (sUAS), and Crisis Negotiator Team conducted joint operational training and practice inside Mountain Brook High School Wednesday.

With students and teachers out for the summer, MBPD used the high school’s facilities for its teams to have “on-site practice” for real-life situations.

“With the building getting ready to be demolished, I love that we were able to give them space where they can do some realistic training,'' Mountain Brook High School principal Philip Holley said. “Allowing them to do what they need to do today ensures a safe learning environment and community in the future.”

With the upcoming renovations to MBHS, the 200 and 300 halls provided the ideal location for MBPD to use explosive breaching, facilitate tactical movement, clear rooms, and much more. The police department’s teams conduct this type of training monthly at a firing range facility, MBPD fire tower, and any other structures as they become available.

“The most important aspect of today was for each unit to collectively improve,” Sergeant Brad Timothy said.
